Why is Water Quality Important in the Estuary?
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
Water quality is an important part of esutary life because it determines what kinds of life can make it in our diverse estuarine habitat types.
Not only do plants and animals that we farm, fish, hunt and trap depend on good water quality throughout our 4.2 million acre estuary for their survival, but many of our parish and city drinking water intakes pull from the many waterways, bayous, canals and rivers which flow through our system. This makes good water quality especially important for human life as well.

Come to the introduction workshop!
The BTNEP is kicking off its water quality monitoring program with a FREE weekend workshop in Thibodaux on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.. This workshop is for estuary residents who wish to learn more about what water quality means for the health of our estuary and how to get involved in testing the quality of water near their homes or businesses.

Participants who attend this workshop will receive water quality testing supplies and instructions on how to use them. In exchange, participants will adopt a site in our estuary to monitor once per quarter. Each quarter, after testing is done, participants will get together for a data-sharing supper and social. This is a fun and exciting way to learn more about the estuary we live, work and play in!
Space is limited to the first 20 participants to sign up!
This workshop is now FULL!!
But don't fret, we will host more in the near future. For more information, to join the monitoring program, or to request another workshop, contact the BTNEP.
